Greetings. I am Eevee, and this is my.. experiment. It is not so much a web site as a testing ground for whatever I happen to be doing at the moment. For quite a while, that has been the construction of an epic Pokédex, but on the off chance it is ever finished to my satisfaction, I have plenty more ideas for applications to write. In other words, this is not nor was it ever intended to be yet another Pokémon site.
You are welcome to create a community here (when the forum happens to be working), but I make no effort whatsoever to censor anything or adhere to any sort of "rating". I also have a bit of a problem with people who cannot get enough of their own inane babble and people who cannot string two words together coherently to save their lives. I suggest you keep that in mind if you wish to "contribute". Beyond that, I think nitpick rules are the fastest way to create a religion, so I try to avoid it at all costs.
If you wish to actually contribute -- i.e., look at and amend the code -- drop me a line and we'll see what we can do. Veekun is written in Perl and running atop Catalyst on FastCGI. (PHP sucks.)
I am also distributing my raw Pokédex data, as I think it's ridiculous to claim ownership of data someone else invented that I collected. If you would like it, you can get a MySQL-compatible dump from my code repository. Fair warning: the schema has no real documentation at the moment and is subject to change without notice.
I am wide open to suggestions, comments, criticisms, improvements, and free money.
Pokémon News
The official site for the games Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver has just been updated after the release of the North American versions of the games. Among the information included is the distribution date for the Yellow Forest Pokéwalker Route. Players of the North American versions of the games will be able to obtain it via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from April 1-30.
Leaked scans from the April issue of CoroCoro have revealed information on the remaininng missions for the third Pokémon Ranger game and the Pokémon to be given away to commemorate the thirteenth Pokémon movie, <i>Ruler of Illusions: Zoroark</i>. Shiny Raikou, Entei or Suikun will be available for download from June 18 to Aug. 31 by those who pre-order tickets for the thirteenth movie. On the other hand, Ranger missions focused on Giratina and Arceus will be available starting April 15.

Things you should be aware of:
- Direct links to the old sprites should continue to work; that is, /dex-images/redblue/001.png is automatically redirected to /dex/media/red-blue/1.png. If you were relying on the old behavior for some reason, please fix your crap!
- Links to functionality that doesn't yet exist on the new site will redirect here. I'll remove these redirects as necessary.
- Links to the Pokémon search will probably not work. I don't think there are too many of these, though.
- Links to the beta now go to the main site. Because it used to be the beta. Right.
- The changelog will still go here until there's a forum (or better?) on the new site.
- The new site does NOT YET have the page caching that the old site does, so for all I know it may fall apart under load. Let's find out! (It shouldn't; at the very least, there is far less traffic to this server now than when I had to write the cache in the first place.)
- You will be logged out of old veekun, because it's on a different domain now.
- Come on IRC!
Please let me know of anything that needs immediately fixing (or even eventually fixing). I'm going to be a bit AWOL until Thursday, but I'll do my best.

ps: warning for source-divers: the Pokémon search will not work for you, as I'm using a patched version of a library (wtforms). I'm going to see about getting my changes merged in, but either way I'll have it working against a real release soon.
I don't work on current veekun any more, it's slowly falling apart as I upgrade the server (look at the resources page), and I want to get rid of it as soon as possible. Ideally, I'd like the beta to replace current veekun by HG/SS's release (or maybe the day of, although I'll be out of town at the time).
However! The beta is still far from complete. I've been putting a lot of work into the staples like Pokémon pages and some gaping holes like encounters, but that means I've had to put off stuff like recreating the Pokémon search for quite some time. And I haven't even started on anything like a forum, which is a giant undertaking.
If I made the beta the real site today, there would be no advanced search and no way for anyone to communicate. I can't even post real news right now. Hell, the front page of the beta is blank. This sucks.
So! I have six weeks. Assuming I keep the old site around for emergencies, what does the beta critically need for it to replace veekun? In order of important, right now I think I can get away with:
- advanced Pokémon search
- Pokémon and move lists
- user stuff (registration, login, permissions)
- a shoutbox
After that:
- barebones forum (so I can post news)
- breeding chain calculator (because it's fairly unique)
- item/ability pages
And then I guess everything else in the current order.
I do have a roadmap of everything I wanted by release, which I consulted for the above list.
Thoughts?
Keep in mind I still only have cursory Japanese knowledge, I'm highly unlikely to be fluent by the end of the year, and it took me months to beat either Pearl or Platinum. 8)
