If this new game really is gen 5 (or if it isn't then whenever gen 5 comes out), what should I do about it, besides collect Pokémon stats? Play the game hardcore for three days and just jot down absolutely everything? Would anyone care about this when Serebii can much more quickly just sit around and let everyone report to him?

Keep in mind I still only have cursory Japanese knowledge, I'm highly unlikely to be fluent by the end of the year, and it took me months to beat either Pearl or Platinum. 8)

As for your actual question, considering the big guns can generally do it faster and with more Japanese literacy, it might be a wasted effort for you. Unless you're doing something the others aren't, in which case I say go for it.

I'd like to see the new sprites ripped really fast if that isn't too much of a problem, but that's just me (then again I did find this site through the little "Special Thanks to... and Eevee for the sprites" link on Serebii way back when. Edit: and I'm sure many others did too.)

Edit (again): this is assuming that this(these) new game(s) aren't completely 3D.

While I don't really ever use them myself, I'm sure rips of various content could prove to be useful for some people. I actually wouldn't mind a rip of the soundtrack. That'd be something I'd listen to on occasion.

I guess it's going to be like Gold and Silver, that means, with extra features for the DSi but playable on the DS.
Just play it causally, and when you're done, start working on a new porigon z.
I will probably keep away from the game so that I won't ruin the surprise, though. I'm doing that now with HGSS (keeping away from spoilers).

I find your mechanics pages to be the best, and your pokedex pages, when completed, to be nice and detailed in a way that even Serebii can't beat

I will definitely still care about this place. Your pokedex is about 1000x better then any other on the net(conservative estimate) and I use it probably everyday. Even if it takes a little longer this site is worth the wait! I'm sure everyone here is willing to help collect data any way they can though if you need help.

hmm that seems a little far fetched hahah(I'm sorry). My theory is since the outline looks sonic the hedehoggy it could be a sandslash evo. Although those drawings are convincing.

I guess this is increasingly relevant now that stuff is starting to trickle out. Is there any value in collecting it myself?

Edit: I mean, this site is the best for usability of dumped game data, but the tidbits given out for the new games aren't yet useful enough to link in a database.

I agree with spriteless, besides I would think that some of the folks at serebii would be tearing the game apart for all the data within 48 hours of its release.
